Crowns / Full-Veneers As we get a little older, our teeth begin to change and are prone to decay or fracture. There are many possible reasons for this change in your smile. These reasons can include bruxism (teeth grinding), general decay, cracked fillings, root canals, and many others. If your tooth is beyond repair with a simple filling, we may recommend that the best viable option to save the tooth is a crown or full-veneer. The benefits of a crown or a full-veneer are excellent durability, high strength, excellent comfort, and a natural cosmetic appearance. Types of Crowns If we decide that you are in need of a crown or full-veneer, there are a few different materials that can be used to repair your tooth. These options include an All-Porcelain Zirconia crown, a Porcelain Fused-to-Gold (PFG) crown, or a Full-Gold crown. Dr. Keen will review the options with you to help determine which of these materials is most appropriate for your tooth situation. You can be comfortable in knowing that Dr. Keen makes every effort to ensure that your new tooth is very aesthetically pleasing and will flawlessly complement the rest of your smile. Procedure Two appointments are required to complete a crown or a full-veneer. The procedure begins with the removal of all decay in the tooth and to shape the tooth. Once the shaping is completed, we will take an impression of the tooth. This impression will be sent to our laboratory where your new restoration will be crafted by Dr. Keen and his expert team of his ceramists. At the end of this first appointment, we will provide you with a temporary crown restoration. Dr. Keen's temporary restorations are artistically crafted to resemble the precise color, contour and shape of your natural teeth. Dr. Keen devotes significant attention to the temporary restoration so that you can continue with your daily life activities without any inconvenience or without any worry about a missing or incompatible tooth. During your second visit to our office, we will proceed with the placement of your final restoration. This permanent crown will be fitted comfortably into your mouth. Every effort is taken to ensure that your new tooth feels exactly like one of your natural teeth. The final step in the process is to permanentlhy cement the crown into your mouth, leaving you with a beautifully restored smile.
